ISO 10012 – Measurement Management Systems – Requirements for measurement processes and measuring equipment

Scope of the Standard: ISO 10012 Standard defines the general requirements and acts as a guideline for the management of measuring processes and metrological confirmation of measuring equipment. Any organization carrying out ‘measurement’ processes in compliance with this Standard must grant that the metrological requirements are always met, and that the measuring equipment used is fit for the foreseen uses: the guarantee of a measurement that is ‘referable to the International System’ is fundamental and thus becomes part of the whole Management System of the organization.

Recipient of our consulting services: organizations (public and/or private) operating in the Testing&Calibration sector (e.g. testing and calibration laboratories).

Aim: the creation and/or maintenance of a Measurement Management System fully integrated with the existing Quality Management System (i.e. ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 15189, etc.).

Based on the principles and requirements of ISO 10012, we support our customers in the implementation and maintenance of Measurement Management System fully integrated with the existing Quality Management System (i.e., ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 15189)

Some of our services (non-exhaustive list):

  • Initial meeting with the customer: verification of metrological confirmation requirements and methods currently used
  • Support in the creation and/or implementation of procedures, methods, calibrations, etc.
  • Optimization of those measurement management processes within the existing Management System
  • Training of the personnel involved
  • Support during the control phase
  • Planning of maintenance activities as well as the periodic audit

Some of the advantages deriving from the implementation of an effective process of Measurement Management according to ISO 10012:

  • Results that are referable to the International Measurement System
  • Correct ‘Quality’ of the measurements carried out – completely compliant with the foreseen metrological requirements and fitting the customers’ needs and expectations, in terms of ‘quality’ of the expected data/results
  • Calibrations made with reference Samples and Materials, which are included in the defined metrological traceability chain
